Q&A – Meet the Team: Wendy – Owner of Moo Baba

The Wharf Mooloolaba is proud to be home to and work with some of the best retail teams the Sunny Coast has to offer.

With quality second to none and an eye for the unique and gorgeous to match – Moo Baba was born out of a 3-month covid lockdown, and they have been proudly styling Mooloolaba’s little ones since!

Their care in curation extends to what and how they select the products sold in store – hand-picked sourced locally in Australia using ethical and sustainable labour and resources.

We recently got chit-chatting with the store owner Wendy – to discuss the story of Moo Baba and what truly sets them apart as a premium children’s boutique and online retailer.

Hi Wendy!

Tell us a bit about yourself…

I was born on the Sunshine Coast and grew up in the beautiful Noosa region

My husband, Antonio, & I have been together now for over 15 years and have a combined family of 4 children ranging from 21 to 35. We are also blessed with 1 lovely grandson.

Pre Covid I worked in HR, IR & Recruitment for the last 20 years. Having also owned See Restaurant with my husband for the last 8 years, I am definitely a multi-tasker!

Who is the team at Moo Baba?

We have a small but committed team at Moo Baba – Liz, Aisling & Myself.

When and where did Moo Baba’s journey begin?

The Moo Baba concept was born during our 3 month Covid shutdown of See Restaurant. I knew I didn’t want to go back into my previous field and wanted to start something of my own.

What made you want to take the leap to start your own Children’s/Babies boutique?

Having known the Wharf precinct well, I saw a great opportunity to start my little store. I saw a serious gap in the options parents have in the region to buy quality products for babes & kids and have the faith in myself to make it work.

What’s been a highlight of running Moo Baba?

Although I was confident in my abilities to run a successful business, I had actually never worked in retail before.  It has been a little scary at times, but I have a great network behind me and am proud of how everything is coming together. Every day is a day of learning and growing.

What have you been most proud of?

I just love when customers come in store and tell me how much they love our ranges.

How would you describe the quintessential style of a Sunny Coast little one? I think the Sunshine Coast is just so diverse, but quintessentially, we all love the beach and the outdoor lifestyle. I believe our ranges reflect play but also something a little special.

We understand that Moo Baba hand selects all items you sell; what do you look for when selecting the brands and labels to stock?

I look for quality in fabric and production. Ideally, our brands are all Australian owned using sustainable & ethical manufacturing practices.

Can you give us a quick insight into what the process of uncovering and supporting these brands and labels looks like?

I spend a lot of time researching but also spend a lot of time talking with parents to find out what sorts of things they feel are lacking in the region. I have a couple of fabulous agents who help me uncover upcoming brands and items.

What are some Australian labels and brands that you love having in store at the moment?

Absolutely love our upcoming Spring/Summer ranges from Bebe, Fox & Finch & Minihaha – beautiful prints and fabrics. This season will also see the introduction of Aster & Oak, which also has gorgeous offerings for both girls & boys.

What’s next for Moo Baba? My new website has recently gone online, and I couldn’t be happier with it. I’m looking forward to releasing our new season and sharing a summer with everyone from the Sunny Coast, interstate & from abroad.
